Brief Encounters: Michál Cohen, Walters & Cohen
Getting the brief right is essential to any successful project. This involves clear communication, listening, observing, visiting precedents and testing through drawing, then synthesising this into a whole that responds to each individual client on each individual site.
Michál Cohen will speak about her experience of setting the brief with education clients and how productive partnerships have resulted in award-winning buildings that exceed expectation, as well as lifelong friendships with clients and consultants.
The King’s School, Macclesfield – A £60m redevelopment of one of the UK’s largest independent schools: Natalie Clemson, Director – Civil Engineering, Pick Everard, Howard Render, Design Manager – VINCI Construction & Jonathan Spencer, Director of Finance – The Kings School, Macclesfield
“Last year saw the completion of the £60m redevelopment of one of the UK’s largest independent schools – The King’s School, Macclesfield – creating state-of-the-art facilities for more than 1,200 pupils and 250 staff.
This ambitious development united two previous sites across the town into one central area, with the new campus sitting adjacent to the school’s existing sports pitches.
Expert representatives from VINCI and Pick Everard are joined by the school’s director of finance to discuss the challenges presented from both a project and funding aspect for one of the most ambitious projects in the school’s 516-year history.”
