Jim Fanning is a senior education officer with Education Scotland, the Scottish government agency tasked with supporting improvement in education. He took up post as SEO Head of Emerging Technologies in 2013. He was strategy lead for the Digital Learning and Teaching Strategy for Scotland, published in 2016. Since then he has led on developing the online publication policy and processes for the agency’s web estate and supported the Scottish Attainment Challenge in the role of attainment advisor. He is a member of the Forth Valley and West Lothian regional improvement team, supporting the work of the regional improvement collaborative. His teaching career was spent in Kent and East Sussex, including roles as a classroom teacher of history and ICT, pastoral head, head of Sixth Form and assistant headteacher. During a career break he became a qualified youth worker, taking on various roles in the Kent Youth & Community Service.
