Murray studied architecture at Strathclyde University in Glasgow and at the Technishe Universitat in Berlin and registered as an Architect in 2012. He has worked at erz since 2009 and in that time has developed an understanding of the benefit of landscape led design and development and how this can be applied across many aspects of the built and unbuilt environments in Scotland.
He believes passionately in the value of outdoor play and education for children of all ages and has worked on, and led, a wide range of play and education projects including the multi award winning Arcadia Nursery for the University of Edinburgh, the 2020 Early Years Expansion Reference Design for Scottish Futures Trust and a new £24 million ASN School Campus in North Ayrshire.
Following the work on the 2020 Early Years Reference Design project in 2018, erz have been working closely with a number of education teams across Scotland on how to manage the Scottish Government’s proposal to double free early years provision from the current 600 hours per year per child to 1140 hours. This experience, and the focus on outdoor learning that is embedded in the early years curriculum, has helped inform the development of the HELO School proposal and the idea of a green recovery for education.
